Oahu is called the Gathering Place because so many people have gathered to live there. Around 75% of the population of the state of Hawaii lives on Oahu. Most of those live in Honolulu, the state capital. See my pictures.

Kauai is called the Garden Island because of the abundance of lush vegetation. According to my one tour guide, on this island you will find the rainyest spot on earth, with well over 600 inches of rain per year. All that rain is dropped on one side of Mount Waialeale. Only six miles on the other side of the island you will find the eighth driest spot on earth. See my pictures.
