Dreisbach United Church of Christ- Youth Worker & Director

Lewisburg, PA

The future of the church is the youth and youngsters in our congregation. Based on the growing numbers in this group, it has been decided that a youth worker is needed to be involved in planning and also attending activities to keep these youngsters plugged into the church. The committee feels that if we can find a youth worker who is closer in age to the youth (college student would be ideal), they will have a better idea of what challenges and temptations these teenagers face and be able to relate better to their needs. Based on some of the administrative requirements associated with overseeing the youth group, it is also the committees desire to have a separate youth director. This person would likely be an adult member of the congregation and work closer with the youth worker to make sure the information and organization of the youth group is taken care of. Some basic criteria that have been established are as follows for each position (YW - youth worker and YD - youth director):

-Youth is defined as grades 7 through 12.

-The time frame that would be involved is September through May (YW) and each month of the year (YD).

-Would expect time commitment to be around 10 hours per month for both the YW and YD.

-Hourly rate would be $12 per hour. (YW & YD)

-Would keep the pastor and the youth committee informed of how things are going and any problems or concerns they have. (YW & YD).

-Able to work with parents of the youth, many who already have taken ownership of one or more tasks to make sure the activities the youth currently perform for the church will continue. These include Easter and Christmas flowers, planning Easter sunrise service and existing or new fundraisers. (YD).

-Organize one activity per month for the youth, including a Youth Kick-off that is held in early September. This could involve other youth groups or activities that are scheduled to take place in the area (like a monthly skate or concert). (YD).

-Commit to one week in the summer to go with youth to Harvey Cedars Bible Conference (usually the week after July 4) or another camp. (YD).

-Attend Sunday School at least one Sunday per month. Donut Sunday would be the best Sunday. This would allow the current junior and senior high teachers one week off and allow the group to organize activities and share in fellowship when they are already at church. (YW).

-Have a heart for youth and be willing to help the youth strengthen their walk with Christ. This might include making phone calls, emails, checking in with the kids or just hanging out with them. Building relationships is something that is important to keeping the kids interested. (YW & YD)

Celebration Community Church - Youth Worker

Dillsburg, PA

Celebration Community Church is just over a year old and is looking for someone in need of part-time employment and practical ministry experience. We meet at Range End Golf Course as of now, but we also rent a storefront in Dillsburg and have converted it into a Student Community Center. Every day over 30 students hang out to play pool, watch television, do homework and play video games. We want this to be a desirable place for youth to hang out, and it also serves as the meeting place for our Wednesday night youth group. The ministry is currently led by two college-age women, but because they work full-time, it would be beneficial to bring someone else on board to help take our ministry to the next level.
