Mission Year
Bankhead, Atlanta
Mission Year is a program that was created by Bart Campolo in 1996. It allows young adults ages 19-29 to move into an inner city neighborhood and move towards advancing the kingdom of God.
Young adults are housed in an intentional community in a city in the United States. Cities include Oakland CA, Philadelphia PA, Atlanta GA, Chicago IL, New Orleans LA and Willmington DE. About 5-7
young adults, either all females, or co-ed live together. Teams are partnered up with a church, which they regularly attend. Volunteer sites are selected by each member of a team, which they will spend about eight or nine hours
working at four days a week. Saturdays and Sundays consist of neighborhood outreach and demonstrating the love of Christ through the creation of relationships. Last year, I had the opportunity to participate in Mission Year with six other females from around
the country in Bankhead, Atlanta, Georgia. The next few pages display the various aspects of Mission Year. These include, Teammates, Work Sites, Church and the Neighborhood.
