Homunculi:

Homunculi are soul-less humans that are born when an alchemist fails to perform a human transmutation. At "birth" they appear as disfigured monsters. However, upon ingesting Philosopher Stones, they become full-fledged homunculi taking on the physical appearance of their former human selves. They possess supernatural abilities such as regenerative properties and longevity, which makes them nearly invincible. It is only when they come into close proximity with the remains of the human that they were "born" from that they are weakened. In this weakened state, they may be trappped within a transmutation circle and forced to expell (vomit) the red stones within them. Without these stones, they lose much of their power and become just as vulnerable to physical harm as a normal human. Each of the homunculi carries the mark of the Ouroboros somewhere on their body and is named after one of the seven deadly sins. There is a total of seven homunculi in the series who work together to try to make Edward create a Philosopher's Stone for them. Their belief is that with the power of the stone Dante, their leader, will be able to make them truly human.

Lust Gluttony Envy Sloth Wrath Greed Pride

Lust:

Lust because of her attractiveness and intelligence is able to manipulate people to do what she wants. Her special ability is that she can extend her fingers and use them as lethal weapons to stab, slash, and be used as projectiles. She is therefore known as the Ultimate Spear. Her Ourobroos tattoo is located below her throat. She was born when Scar's brother tried to resurrect his lover. Towards the end, she regains some of her memories from when she was human and begins to soften towards the Elric brothers. She ends up betraying the other homunculi by banding with Edward to find the Philosopher's Stone if he agrees to fulfill her desire to become a true human. Her dream is never realized though; Wrath traps her in the transmutation circle and kills her.

Gluttony:

Possessing a child-like demeanor and a strong dependency on Lust, Gluttony isn't very intelligent, . He almost never leaves her side. Gluttony, true to his name, has an insatiable appetite. He is extremely powerful and agile for his size and possesses incredibly strong teeth that can tear through even the strongest metals. His tattoo is located on his tongue. At the end of the series when he finds out that Lust is dead, he becomes mad with grief. Dante transmutes him into a mindless monster driven by his appetite. She believes that he will eat through Al to the perfect Philosopher's Stone contained within, but in the end he turns on his creator and devours her.

Envy:

Envy is a rather effeminate-looking character with a dry, cynical personality. He possesses the ability to take on the form and voice of anyone he encounters. Envy claims to have forgotten his original form. He is extremely strong and agile, both of these assets he uses frequently. He often uses his skills at impersonation to collect information and perform assassinations for Dante. Since he has no desire to find the Philosopher's Stone or become human, it seems that he works for Dante purely because he enjoys inflicting pain on others. His driving motivation in life is to seek revenge on Hohenheim, his creator, for rejecting and abandoning him. His hatred for Hohenheim is also reflected onto his sons. At the end of the series when he learns that Hohenheim has crossed to the other side of the gate, he eagerly follows in hopes of at last catching up with his hated enemy. His tattoo is located on his left thigh.

Sloth:

Sloth is the youngest of the homunculi--born when Edward and Al performed human transmutation on their mother, and as such she looks just like her. She has taken on the identity of the Furhur's (Pride's) secretary, Juliet Doughlas. Supposedly Juliet Doughlas was responsible for starting the Ishbalan war after she was reported to have died two years prior. Sloth has many memories from when she was human, and she believes that the pain that comes with these memories will end if she kills Ed and Al. Towards the end of the series, Wrath views her as a mother figure and bonds himself to her to prevent Ed from separating them. It is this mistake that causes Sloth's demise. Earlier in the episode Wrath had absorbed her remains, thus making her weak by his proximity and all the easier for Edward to transmute her body into ethanol so that she evaporated. Sloth possesses the special ability to manipulate water even to the extend of converting her own body into liquid which she uses to drown her victims. Her tattoo is located above her left breast.

Wrath:

Wrath was born when Izumi transmuted the body of her dead son on Yok Island. Horrified by the monster she had created through the failed transmutation, Izumi sent him ino the gate where he continued to age. While trapped in the gate, Wrath was able to retrieve Edward's lost limbs and fuse them to his own body. Because he posessed human limbs, he was able to fight his way out of the gate into the real world where he was discovered by the Elric brothers on Yok Island. Wrath is the only homunculus that is able to perform basic alchemy, derriving his power from Edwards discarded limbs. Wrath first appears as an innocent child completely dependant on Izumi. However, when Envy feeds him the red stones he becomes a matured homunculus and his love for Izumi quickly turns to hate for his creator. Goaded on by Envy, Wrath becomes obsessed with hate for Edward and a desire to take his entire body so that he might be human himself. He sees Sloth as being more his mother than the Elric brothers', and to possess Ed's entire human body would make this connection complete. He is inconsolable after Sloth's death, and Dante seeing no further use for him, sends him back to the gate. The gate absorbs Wrath's human limbs but he is otherwise able to allude the gate unscathed. In the end, Winry is able to fit him up with auto mail to replace the limbs he lost. Soon after he disappears and nothing more is heard of him. Wrath's talent is that he can transmute his own body to fuse with things in his environment. Unlike the other Homunculi, Wrath doesn't have the "Achili's heal" of his remains to weaken him since his human body was used in the transmutation. His tattoo is located on the bottom of his right foot.

Greed:

Greed is the second oldest homunculi next to Envy. He was created by Dante from one of her former lovers. Greed possesses the ability to make himself impervious to harm. When in this protected state he resembles a black-skinned monster. It is because of this talent that he is referred to as the "Ultimate Sheild." In the past, Greed betrayed Dante and the other homunculi, and because of this, Dante had Envy seal him within a chamber in the 5th Labratory. He was however released when a tremor broke the seal during Ed and Al's visit to the lab. While there, he freed many of the chimera imprisoned in Lab 5 and they joined forces with him against the other homunculi and the state military. Greed is quite a ladies-man and very arrogant. He is not at all interested in the Philosopher's Stone, prefering money, women, power, and immortality to the few benefits that humanity would have to offer. In the end, he is trapped in a transmutation circle by Dante and forced to expell his red stones. This weakens him for his later confrontation with Ed. Before he dies, Greed relates the secret of the homunculi's one weakness (proximity to their human remains) to Edward as a way of getting revenge on the other homunculi. His tattoo is located on is left hand.

He had rescued Pride's treasure box from the burning house, unconscious that they were, in fact, the remains of Pride's former self. Roy took advantage of the distraction and Pride's weakened state to finish him off in a burst of flames. Pride's tattoo is located on his eye that he usually hides beneath his eye patch.
