"When you are thinking of a story, it is helpful to write notes on your different ideas. You can use a whole page just to write notes or draw pictures as you think of ideas. This technique is known as brain storming."

So let's look at some of the genres you could pick...

Soccer Girl

Realistic fiction is a story that could actually happen in real life. The characters are real people and the story could happen in the real world. Your story could even take place in your town- your school, your home, or your favorite park. When writing realistic fiction, think about your life and your experiences. Think about the interesting things that happen in the real world and what would make an interesting story.

Wagon

Historical fiction is a story that could have happened in the past. This genre is really fun because you take your characters to another time period. The story could be a part of a real event that you find interesting. Your characters could travel in covered wagons along the Oregon trail, help build the Great Wall of China, or survive the volcanic eruption of Pompeii. There are so many possibilities! When you write historical fiction, you are a time traveler.

Space Ship

Science fiction is the genre where you can write out-of-this-world stories. You can create adventures to other planets and explore the entire galaxy! Science fiction takes place in the real world, but a lot of times in takes place in the future instead of the present-day or the past. You can think of new technology and your characters might be able to do things that people cannot do now. They might even know some aliens!

Narnia

Fantasy is the kind of fiction that does not have to take place in the real world, but could take place in a new world altogether. You can create creatures that do not exist and invent your own civilizations. Fantasy uses the most creativity and imagination and is always exciting to read!

When you write a story, you can go anywhere (in this world and out-of-this-world) at any time (the past, present, or future)! You can really choose your own adventure!
