Bluefields, Nicaragua

January 2006 I traveled to Bluefield’s Nicaragua along with 20 others. While we were there work with our sister church in Loma Fresco. Over the years my church has helped them to build a missions house, a church, a small school, an orphanage, and a medical clinic. Our team painted the clinic, installed a water pump, gave out close, interacted with the children, gave school supplies to the students at the school, and the doctors that were on the team hired a nurse and set up the medical clinic. We accomplished a lot the week we were there, but sadly our week ended on a bad note. Some how 18 of our team including myself got sick, and one of the women on the team collapsed and hit her head so the doctors who were with us had to give her stitches. She is one of the strongest Christians I know because whenever some asks about what happened to her had she said it was a way of spreading the good news of what we had been doing in Nicaragua. At the very end of our trip we took advantage of the chance to Zip-Line through the rain forest of Nicaragua by going on 12 connected zip-lines, where we had monkeys literally swinging next to us. Looking through a Childs Eyes

In Nicaragua I was blessed and touched by a little girl named Reina. I noticed her on the first day and then I continued to see her day after day until I finally decided to ask who she was. I was told she was dumb but when they say dumb they mean she is deaf and mute. When the children and translator told me that she happened to be near by and realized they were laughing and talking about her so she ran away crying. I ran to comfort her and get to know her and her sister. She had the most unforgettable green eyes and you could see how much she loved her family. Her sister told me about her and that the other children make fun of her but she still stands tall. It is so hard to imagine, on top of living in a country with poverty all around, she is also living with disabilities. She made me a picture to take back to the U.S. and followed my car as we left. I will never for get her and some day hope to go back and see how she has grown.
