Welcome to the home page of Dr. Erin Boyd-Soisson. I teach courses in Child Development, Adolescent Development, Adult Development, Interpersonal Relationships, Social Research, and Foundations of Marriage and Family. My experiences as a counselor for adolescents, an assistant preschool teacher for children ages 8 months to 5 years, and researcher of parents and children have given me many opportunities to work directly with children and their parents from a variety of age groups, cultural backgrounds, and socioeconomical statuses. Drawing from what I have learned from these experiences I hope to help students in the area of human development and family science to better understand the uniqueness of individuals and their families.

My professional and research interests include the study of emotional development, communicating with emotions within the family, and attachment, parenting, and children’s emotional development. Recently I have developed an interest in understanding infant care, particularly infant feeding. Because of my background in family and the wealth of information that indicates breastmilk has many benefits for developing infants, I am interested in understanding what roles families have in a mother’s decision to breast or bottle feed her infant.

My hobbies include spending time with my own family – my husband Tim, son, Shepard, and daughter, Faith, as well as our two dogs and cat. As a family we enjoy hiking, camping (sometimes!), playing games, and reading.
