(Hanks 16). Even Smedes' second edition of Sex for Christians (Grand Rapids, MI: Eerdmans, 1994) did not speak in favor of homosexuality. His 1978 review of Fr. John J. McNeil's book in Christian Scholar's Review (VIII, 1, 1978. 62-65) says, "That some homosexual relationships are loving does not establish that they are loving because they are homosexual."
Fuller Seminary was the locus of a survey by Marsden ([1987] 307) that included the following percentage responses to the statement, "Homosexual relationships between consenting adults are wrong." Choices were "Always, Usually, Rarely, Never." Read the chart as follows: the first three columns are Marsden's data; the second two are 1982 data from J. D. Hunter. The first four columns are Fuller Seminary. The last is all seminaries. The three numbers in each cell in Marsden's questions are the 1985 percentages of alumni from the graduation years mentioned at the top of the table. Each question asked for three responses: "before you went to Fuller," "at your graduation from Fuller," and "now in 1985." Those percentages are reported in the cells.

Apparently Fuller has a liberalizing influence, but not nearly as much of a liberalizing influence as the culture itself.
