Purpose: New Hope is a Christ Centered Ministry designed to help people struggling with homosexuality leave their past lifestyle and to fully EMBRACE THEIR TRUE IDENTITY IN JESUS CHRIST.
Goals:
To rescue means to present the Truth to all who will listen. It means to nurture those who will surrender to the will of the Lord Jesus Christ, befriending them and pointing the way to change.
To prepare a place means to educate the Church on how to meet the needs of those making such a life altering decision. We do this through special seminars for counselors and Christian workers throughout the Bay Area or by special arrangement anywhere God calls us.
Our Stand
New Hope upholds God's standard of righteousness and holiness which declares
homosexuality is a sin, but also affirms that His love and redemptive power
are able to bring wholeness and restoration to the entire individual,
including his or her sexuality.
New Hope Ministries is the continuation of the work of Frank and Anita Worthen. The work began in 1973 when Frank, at 44, recommitted his life to Jesus Christ. Over the next few years he founded Love in Action (LIA), one of the largest and oldest ex-gay ministries in the world. He also co-founded Exodus International in 1976, now a world wide umbrella ministry setting the standard for all ministries helping homosexuals walk free through the power of prayer. Over the past 21 years, Frank has appeared on countless radio and television shows including the "700 Club" and the "Phil Donahue Show". In addition, Frank has written several books the most known being "Helping People Step Out of Homosexuality".
Help For Others
Because homosexuality affects more than just the individual concerned, we
also extend a helping hand to the families of those struggling with
homosexuality. Anita's special events for parents have brought many
favorable comments from troubled loved ones. For many, this has been the
first time they have been able to vocalize these troubling and painful
issues that have kept them in the bondage of silence for so many years.
Overseas Vision
For many years Frank and his wife Anita have ministered around the world
through seminars and offered their support to existing ministries. In 1991
they made the move to Manila, Philippines to start a new ministry based on
the Love in Action model. This ministry, Bagong Pag-asa (New Hope) is now
more than four years old and has been left in Filipino hands. It remains a
sister ministry to New Hope in San Rafael, California.
Residential Program
The one year live-in program which Frank founded in San Rafael in 1977 has
proven so successful that it has expanded to other parts of the world.
Beginning every January and finishing in Mid-December, this program is an
intensive discipleship program that ministers to the whole person, reaching
into the deep non-sexual roots of homosexuality.
Drop-in Meetings
New Hope offers Friday night drop-in meetings. This meeting offers support to
those who cannot make a year's commitment to the residential program. Through
worship and teaching this meeting has been a hallmark of Frank's style and
ministry. Literally thousands have passed through this meeting in its 20
years of existence.
