This is not really a specifically Christian claim, although Robert Goss presents it as such. I am suspicious, however, that the gay Christian apologetic mostly tries to evangelize Christians toward accepting homosexuality rather than evangelizing gays toward accepting Christ. When I proposed this in a letter to Ralph Blair, he rejected my idea with a laugh, "One of my clients said the other day that he heard somebody say that given all the gay men in New York that Dr. Blair has counseled, it's a wonder any gay sex takes place in NYC!" (Blair [1993])

In my own discussion with ACT UP in Toronto I found a mob psychology at work. The one sallow youth in the group with whom I talked was frightened and insecure, there because of being bullied by the leader to stand up for his rights, but really wanting to be elsewhere.
