In a Christian context, Christians are required to judge other Christians. (I Corinthians 5:12; Matthew 18:18) There is a distinction between being judgmental (krinos, Matthew 7:1) and judging thoroughly (diakrinos or anankrinos, I Corinthians 2:14). Jesus condemns judgmentalism; He invites discernment.

In a secular context, a society without judgments is impossible. Even private behaviors have social consequences. Therefore we agree to limit personal rights for social good. The USA for example might decide to prevent immigration of persons with infectious diseases, limit smoking in public areas, or fine a speeding driver even if the car is the only one from horizon to horizon.
