You are right. The homosexually tempted becomes Christians in exactly the same way as everyone else: by faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus also said that those who followed Him should obey Him. Not all gay apologists are willing to admit that Jesus specifically condemned anything, but I agree that He did condemn the Pharisees, and by extension, hypocrisy more generally.

Johnston's book is primarily addressed to conservative Evangelical Christians to teach them why they should not demonize gays. It is sad, therefore, that he feels necessary to demonize his audience.
