Patria Mirabal

Patria Mirabal was the oldest of the Mirabal sisters. As a young girl, she was a very devout catholic and wished to become a nun. This did not happen, however, as she met a young man named Pedrito Gonzales while she was enrolled in school. They were soon married and on their way to starting a family. Patria was the last of the three sisters to actively join the revolution and this decision was brought on by an utterly heartbreaking experience. She was in the mountains praying at a church and she saw a young man gunned down by guerillas. She died, along with her two sisters, Minerva and Mate and their driver, on November 25th, 1960.
