Status Report Two

CSC 333 Project Status Report

Project Name: HELP
Team Members: Dave Hess, Robert Lusk, Ria Ghose

Team Lead: Dave Hess

Date Report Submitted: March 2nd, 2004
Time Period Reporting On: February 11th - March 2nd

1.      Progress Made

Significant changes were made in our project in this time period. We decided we were not going to use the software given to us by HELP ministries; instead we were going to use open source database tools. Accordingly we had to make new decisions about technology stack, division of labor, etc. We are continuing to work on this and has yet not been finalized.

We have also had three more meetings with John Scarpato, twice over the phone and one in person. These conversations have lead us to have a clearer idea of the project, their needs and its scope within the given time frame.

2.      Plans for Upcoming Time Period Until Next Status Report Due

We will continue to work on milestone 3, which will give us a head start on the UML diagram, business rules, etc. In the mean time we will also be implementing some of this in MYSQL, to create a prototype1.

3.      Issues Resolved

Our dilemma of learning Alpha 5 or even trying to probe the system for unknown bugs have been resolved, since we decided to use open source.

4.      New Issues to be Addressed

It seems important for us to be able to meet as a team. Our schedule conflicts with each others and pose the problem of lack of communications.

· Summary of Results of Milestone:2

In this milestone we have completed the Software Requirement document and updated Project Plan. These along with the conversation with John Scarpato and our decision to switch to open source have strengthened our project.

·        Strengths of Milestone:2

·        We now have a better idea of the project and our capabilities in working with it to completion.

·        Instead of trying to fix bugs we will now be dealing with something more constructive, which will allow us to experience the stage of database development more completely.

·        Weaknesses of Milestone:2

·        At this point it is important for us to determine a time that is good for us to meet through out the semester, so we can work more effectively.

· Project Status:

Status is Green, yet.
