Three members of our team
traveled to Millersville
University to meet with three
members of the Project Forward
Leap family. Dan, Reed, and
Jeff went to the meeting in
hopes of getting a definite plan
of what PFL exactly wanted the
database to do.
The first area dealt with
Admissions and their admissions
process. In this area they have
to store student information,
background information,
parent/guardian information,
grade level, demographics and
grades the students get. They
also want to be able to store
and update how much money they
have been given towards
tuition. They would also like
to be able to have an area that
would be a checklist indicating
if they have certain forms
required for admissions.
Separate but still related to
admissions is the calculate
Weighted GPA portion. This
doesn’t just include grades but
also takes into consideration
how the student performed in
their interview as well as any
recommendations they might
have. They would like this to
be web-based if possible as
well.
The second area dealt with was
with PFL’s inventory. At this
time it consists of someone with
a bunch of receipts. They would
like to and need to be able to
store the information for
retrieval down the road. They
are looking at storing
information on location (Philly,
Lancaster, storage shed, or on
the person), costs associated
with the inventory, and finally
whether on not the inventory is
for residential, teaching or
office staff purposes.
The last area dealt with was the
Human Resources process of PFL.
They are looking at storing
information such as name,
position, education level
completed, date of employment,
background information, and
years of service. This is all
for employees that are currently
working for PFL or those that
have in the past. They want to
be able to store this
information for approximately 7
years. They have a high
turnover due to volunteering and
currently have about 180
employees. Aside from the
employee section is the
non-hired applicant section.
They would like to keep the same
sort of information along with
job experience and skills and
keep these people stored for
future employment
opportunities. The final thing
that PFL thought about for the
HR section is an evaluation form
that would evaluate job
performance. They weren’t
really sure what they wanted for
this but mainly just brought up
the possibility.
Overall the meeting was very
successful and informative. We
will be meeting ever other week
with someone from the company as
well.
