Fun Exercises to Try
-Begin a story with, "I don't know why I remember..." then write about a memory that randomly sticks out in your mind. Don't pick something significant (i.e. a death, a marriage, or the birth of a baby), stick to a memory that doesn't seem important, yet stays in your mind.
-For one week, record any dreams that you have. When the week is over, create a story using at least one detail from each of your dreams. Be creative! Anything goes in the dream world!
-Sit somewhere where there are lots of people. Watch their interactions for awhile then pick a few of them to be in your story. Come up with ways in which they interact and affect each other.
-Imagine a world with no laws, what would it be like?
-Go onto Google.com and click the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button. Write a story about the first subject that comes up. It can be a story, a poem, a report, or a play, just be creative!
